How to Spring Clean Your Makeup Collection
Spring is all about new beginnings and what’s better than spring cleaning your makeup collection? The feeling of clean lashes and make up brushes is addictive and super good for you! Check out below our best practices on how to keep your favorite makeup and beauty items clean this spring.
First thing first, we wouldn’t be a lash brand if we didn't start with why you should clean your false lashes at home. To take advantage of 30+ uses per lash, you need to make sure you take care of your false lashes. Cleaning your lashes prevents irritation and keeps your lashes looking fresh so they can serve you for a long time! So, how do we clean our faux lashes?
Before you start cleaning your lashes, wait for a buildup of lash glue on your lash band. Typically, it takes 2-5 uses. If you start cleaning your lashes without the buildup, the lash band may get damaged as you dissolve the adhesive material. How to clean your false lashes
Step 1: Using lash applicator or your fingers, gently peel off the glue buildup. Be sure that you are only pulling on the glue and not the band when removing the buildup.
Step 2: Use a clean spoolie dipped into Lash Clean or another oil-free makeup remover/micellar water and slowly comb the lash fibres. Our Lash Clean breaks down the glue and any other makeup residue, ensuring your lashes are clean. Pro tip: do not soak your lashes in water or makeup remover.
Step 3: It is optional, but you can spray some sanitizer on your lashes to make sure you cleanse it thoroughly.
Step 4: Place your lashes on a paper towel or reusable cotton pad to dry them off. Gently press down on the lashes to remove dirt but be gentle to maintain the lash shape. We would not recommend doing this with regular cotton pads as the material can peel off into the lash and who wants that?
To maintain the longevity and quality of your false lashes, be sure to store them in the original lash case and away from liquids. A Lash socket is also a great option for storing your lashes on the go. To maintain the curl of falsies, you can also use an eyelash curler to reshape them.
For those with lash extensions, using the right cleaning product is essential not to damage your favourite lash extensions and extend their longevity. Make sure to use oil-free makeup removers as oil will negatively affect the glue on the lash extensions. How to clean your eyes with lash extensions
Step 1: Using cotton pads soaked with Lash Clean or another oil-free makeup remover, remove facial makeup around the eyes without touching false lashes. We’d recommend reusable cotton pads when possible, for a more eco-conscious choice, that reduces waste.
Step 2: Apply an oil-free cleanser to a lash brush and gently comb through the lashes. Brush gently from the roots to the tip.
Step 3: Clean your lash brush and use a lash wand to comb through your lash extensions to make sure they keep their shape. If you have a drying fan, you can use it as well to dry your lash extensions. Alternatively, gently collect excess moisture with a towel or a reusable cotton pad.

Unfortunately, all our makeup brushes and sponges get contaminated with bacteria so it’s important to clean your makeup brushes or replace them when needed. There’s no definitive answer on how often you should clean your brushes, but it is definitely often. Many MUAs would recommend every 2 weeks or when you start noticing makeup appearance on the brushes. It also depends on what makeup brush we are talking about as brushes used on the face could need more cleaning than eyeshadow brushes. Cleaning your brushes also helps you apply makeup better as the brushes are porous and can’t achieve perfect coverage if they are covered in oils.
So how do we keep our skin healthy and our brushes in prime condition?
How to clean your makeup brushes
Step 1: Pour Lash Clean into a bowl or wet a cotton pad with it. You can also use any other micellar water.
Step 2: Press a wet cotton pad against the bristles of your brushes or place them in a bowl.
Step 3: If dipped in a bowl, gently swirl your make up brushes to clean them.
Step 4: Rinse the bristles of makeup brushes with clean water.
Step 5: Squeeze out excess moisture and re-form the brush back to its original shape.
Pro tip: make sure to keep the base of your makeup brushes away from soap and water. As the bristles are glued to the base, too much water and soap can dissolve the glue leading to bristles coming out.
