Practice (truly) makes perfect

The more you do something, the better at it you will get. That philosophy is the exact same when it comes to liquid eyeliner application. So, first and foremost, you must put in some effort to practice different application techniques. Pressure and angle is key for liquid eyeliner application

The way you hold your liquid eyeliner wand makes a difference in how easy the application will be, and how thin or thick the line will draw onto the skin. Our best technique tip is about the angle you hold your wand at - always tilt your head slightly back and look into a mirror – just like you would when applying false lashes. Then, hold the liner wand at an angle pointing toward the inner corner of your eye. Ever-so-gently place the tip of the eyeliner’s brush or foam head at the inner corner and softly drag along the lash line to the outer corner of the eye, ending where your natural lashes stop growing.

Another technique if you want to create the illusion of your eyes being farther apart, or a look that doesn’t take up majority of your lid space, is to start the liner from the center of the lid where your pupil sits when you stare straight ahead. This will give you definition on the outer half of the eye (you could even do just the outer third), which is a more natural and lifted liner look. Also, the more pressure you put on the liner wand will indicate how thick the liner will be. If you press aggressively, the liquid liner will apply thick and most likely messy, whereas if you have gentle pressure, you will create a thin line that you can gradually build upon ultimately having more control.

We all love a fierce cat eye

Lastly, if you love that sharp, lifted, pulled-back, SNATCHED look, then a wing liner is for you. Once you’ve applied the liner above the lash line and you’re happy with the width and length, you can begin extending the liner up and out on an angle. This not only gives you an instant (and free) eye lift, but it brings more attention to those beautiful peepers of yours. This is also where you can have more creative freedom, depending on if you want a super dramatic long wing, or a short, subtle extension. If you’re concerned about making a mistake or the wing not being straight, apply a piece of tape from the outer corner of the eye under where you want to draw your liner. It acts as a guide for where you want your liner to go, and on which angle.

So, there you have it. Some worthy tips and tricks to help you on your liquid eyeliner journey. Don't be afraid of making mistakes, and have fun while trying! Whether it's a basic liner look just over your lash line, a fierce don't-mess-with-me wing, or some abstract avant garde shapes - be playful - and practice, practice, practice.
