Liner Tips & Tricks: How to Apply Liquid Eyeliner
Liquid eyeliner is a staple product in any makeup collection. Going out on the town? Extend your liner into a wing for fierce cat-eye energy. First date? Create a thin effortless line that says, ‘I’m not trying too hard’.
But just like anything else, practice makes perfect, and liquid liner can be an intimidating thing if you’re new to the process. Maybe you’ve tried to create a seamless winged liner but ended up with two very different looking lines – one thicker, one lopsided – you get the picture. We’ve put together a list of tips and tricks to make you confident in the exciting world of liquid liner!
Top Tips & Tricks for Applying Liquid Eyeliner
1. Pressure is key.
The more pressure you put on the eyeliner wand, the more product will disperse onto the skin. This is what creates a thicker line. A light, gentle hand will give you more control over how thick or thin your eyeliner is.
2. Angles are important.
The angle you hold the liner will make a big difference in how simple application will be. The best practice is to gently rest the point of the liner tip where the skin meets the lash line. Then pull back from inner to outer corner of the eye, increasing the pressure. If the entire length of the liner tip is against the lash line, it can create an uneven line.
3. Slow and steady wins the race.
A shaky hand can be your worst enemy when it comes to liner application, but sometimes we can’t help those jitters. So, the best way to combat any shaking is to rest your elbow on a flat surface in front of a mirror. That way you can see exactly what you’re doing, while keeping your arm anchored in a still position.
4. Have fun with it!
Don’t be too hard on yourself if you make a mistake – that’s why we have makeup remover. An oil-free remover like Lash Clean will help wipe away any uneven lines, and it’s also good for your skin!
Which Liquid Eyeliner is Best?
The easiest liquid liner to apply will have a felt tip or foam tip, rather than a brush tip. The felt tip is a bit sturdier, giving the user more control over the application. A brush tip is basically like a paintbrush, making it more flexible, but giving you less control.
What Type of Eyeliner should a Beginner Use?
For beginners, we recommend a liner like the Velour Lash & Go Eyeliner, which has an easy-to-use precision foam tip. It's a top-selling favorite of ours as it triples as an eyeliner, magnetic liner, and lash adhesive, so you can use it on its own, with magnetic lashes or false lashes!
The precision foam tip allows you to create controlled, mess-free, effortless lines... the ultimate smooth glide on application.
