This also applies to clients who are bringing products home, wearing them daily, and using the same brushes to apply various products. Unless you want a nasty eye-infection or acne splattered across your skin, then you need to understand how important cleaning your makeup brushes on a regular basis is. And the same principle goes for your false lashes! So let’s dig deeper into why you should be cleaning your false lashes and how!

Cleaning false eyelashes will make them last longer

Lash cleansing allows you to keep your lashes in tip-top shape so you can reuse them many more times  – aka more value! Clean lashes also mean a safer and more sanitary approach to false lash application, therefore protecting your eyes. If you take care of your false lashes by cleaning them on the regular, storing them properly, and not gunking them up with mascara, they can last a very, very, very long time. Cleaning false lashes is easy peasy lemon squeezy

It could seem a tad intimidating if you don’t know the basics of lash care, but we promise it will easily fall into your beauty cleaning routine. The following tips and tricks will make all the difference when doing this on your own at home!

Step-by-step false lash cleaning:

- Wait for glue to build up on the lash band – remove makeup/mascara residue earlier if needed
- Use oil-free makeup remover to loosen the adhesive, clean away mascara or shadow residue
- Remove glue gently from lash band with an applicator or fingers
- Gently toggle the band back and forth to flex the lashes back into shape
- Curl your false lashes if lash hairs have gone straight over time
- Place back in safe place or original case
- Repeat when needed

How to care for fake eyelashes

Your falsies are like your best friend - you love them, you care for them, and you need to nurture them so they can be their best selves. So, treat your lashes with love and they will last forever!

Here's our top tips for clean false eyelashes:

Avoid Mascara – never apply mascara directly on your false lashes as this can damage the quality of the lash. If needed, apply mascara to your natural lashes before applying your false lashes.

Spot Clean – clean any makeup residue off your lashes with an oil-free makeup remover. One of our favourites is the Velour Beauty Lash Clean which is not only good for your lashes, but good for your skin. Using a Q-Tip, gently dab and twirl as needed on the affected areas of your lashes.

Remove Glue – once there is a small buildup of lash glue on the band (after 2-3 wears), gently peel it off with a lash applicator or your fingers. Be sure you’re pulling on the glue and not the band when removing.

Be Gentle – whether false lashes are handmade or not, it is important that you handle them with care. Always gently grasp your lashes from the lash band, not the hairs.

Store in a Case – to maintain the longevity and quality of your lashes, never soak them in water or makeup remover. Be sure to store them in the original case or safe spot such as a lash socket to keep them away from liquids.

Keep the Curl – If your lashes get wet and lose their curl, you can use an eyelash curler to reshape them. You can also curl the false lashes while they are applied on your eyes.

Clean gently, clean often

Depending on how often you wear your false lashes, make sure to clean them every couple of wears, if not every wear – especially if you have mascara or eyeshadow buildup on them. Our goal here is to stay sanitary, keep our eyes safe, and to get as many uses out of our false lashes as possible.
